The Expert-level meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) held on 15 June 2017 was chaired by Mrs. Maria Antonieta Jaquez, Representative of the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the UN. The meeting focused on the promotion of youth participation in mainstream political, economic and social platforms. Following the introductory statement by the Chair, Mr. Graeme Simpson, Director of Interpeace, an international peacebuilding non-profit organization, and lead author of the Progress Study on Youth, Peace and Security mandated by UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250, briefed the floor on the important and positive role young people play in the promotion of international peace and security. The participants were also briefed by Mr. Solvi Karisson, Lead Coordinator for the United Network for Young Peacebuilders, who joined the meeting via skype from The Hague. He provided information on the network of youth peace organisations working at the national, regional, and international level. The session raised the issue on how to empower youth-led peacebuilding organisations and bring the voices of young peacebuilders to the attention of main international policy-makers.
