Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) Ambassadorial-Level on Burundi - 13 March 2017

During the 13 March 2017 Ambassadorial-Level meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), chaired by the Permanent Representative of Belgium to the UN, H.E. Mr Marc Pecsteen de Buytswerve, participants discussed the preparation of the Chair's visit to the country, scheduled for the end of the month. As part of the broader United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping mission already present in Burundi, the visit will be specifically focused on monitoring the food and agricultural security situation, as well as health and education sectors' development. Moreover, it will follow up the progresses made in fostering the intra-Burundian political dialogue and the advancements of the UN peace mission in the country. The meeting was also addressed by Mr. Jean-Baptiste Colonna D'Istria, Representative of the Peacebuilding Commission for the French Mission to the UN, the Representative of the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), H.E. Mr. Albert Shingiro, Permanent Representative (PR) of Burundi to the UN, by H.E. Mr. Tuvako N. Manongi, Permanent Representative (PR) of the United Republic of Tanzania to the UN, and by Mr. Andrew Gilmour, Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
