PBC Ambassador-Level Meeting - Liberia (Open) - 21 November 2017
At this meeting, the Chair of the Liberia Country Configuration focused on obtaining an update on the recent Presidential elections as well as the on-going planning for the upcoming closing of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). Once the mission closes, only the UN Country Team will remain and the transition from a heavy UN presence will require concerted effort to ensure continued, predictable engagement by the international community. The updates were provided by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of UNMIL, along with senior representatives of the Government of Liberia and regional organisation ECOWAS. Discussions between the presenters and Member States focused on ensuring sustained and sufficient financing during the transitions as well as efforts to maintain calm during this electoral period.
