Q. What is an organisation profile and how can I create one?
A. An organisation profile is an online profile, where an organisation can inform others of their activities, mission, vision and other related information. It is comparable to a ‘fan page’ on Facebook, and can be created by any registered user. You can inform and come in contact with your constituencies by creating your organisation profile.
Q. How can I find what I am looking for?
A. As the content database in the Peace Portal is extensive, containing many different types of content, there are several search options. The classic way is via the search engine, where you can find the relevant content by searching via key words. Another way is to use the Peace Map, found on the Mapping Peace page of the Portal, where you can navigate your way based on location and type of content. Lastly, you can find content related to specific country, conflict or theme by using the drop down menus.
Q. How safe is the Peace Portal?
A. The Peace Portal offers a safe space for its users in two ways. One way is by offering the feature of anonymity, allowing users to add content anonymously protecting the identity of the users. Users can activate the anonymous mode in their personal page. Secondly, the Peace Portal offers an encrypted connection, and all users will be verified with an email address and password. In addition to this, registered users are not indexed by Google, meaning that they are not searchable.
Q. How is content quality ensured?
A. As most content is user generated, verifying this information and ensuring quality of content is very important. For this, we have developed a credibility system where all registered users of the Portal can verify and rate content of other users. By rating, via selecting whether a piece of content should have thumbs up (i.e. the content is of good quality) or a thumbs down (content is of bad quality); and the possibility to report if a piece of content is abusive or false and so forth, we ensure the quality of the content. According to the ratings the user of that content receives, the user will have a certain ‘status,’ indicating the level of content quality of that user.
Q. How does the Peace Map work?
A. The Peace Map displays all the content available on the Portal, whether it is a blog, report, news item, member of the Portal or community, structured according to location. For this reason, it is very interesting for you to map yourself and your work on the Peace Map, contributing to a global overview of all peace building work and initiatives.
Searching and navigating on the Peace Map is easy. You can browse the map at any zoom levell. When content is overlapping in the map, you will see this information as clusters and when clicked, a pop up with all related content in that particular area will be displayed. To search content, you can make use of the extensive search engine, found on the top right side of the map. You can search according to a key term and location to find relevant content for you. You can also switch to text view search results by clicking on the ‘show list view.’ To move around the map, use the zoom and navigation buttons and click on the icon of interest. By subscribing to the map notifications, you will receive notifications from a a specific geographic region.
Q. What can I do in a Community?
A. Communities can be created, and joined by any registered user, according to topic of interest. If you are a member of a community, you can come in contact with other experts and interested actors within the field of interest. You can share your expertise and work with others in the community by adding blogs, documents, reports, pictures and videos. You can also enter discussion forums and collaborate online.
Q. How can I automatically be informed?
A. As there is extensive information available, covering a large scope of topics related to conflict prevention and peace building on the Peace Portal, as well as real time information, we offer numerous ways for you to be notified. You can do so in your dashboard settings, by indicating what type of content you are interested in, whether it is a certain theme or a certain country or conflict. You can choose multiple themes, countries and conflicts.
