Become a Partner of the Peace Portal

The technical platform developed by the Peace Portal can be adapted and customised to serve different areas of work and organisations in other fields such as justice, human rights and social change. Become a partner of the Peace Portal if you need an innovative and highly flexible online platform that can be dynamically adapted to support any of your projects.

As a partner organisation using our platform, you can design your own portal or website, tailoring the look and feel, and interaction required for your own specific needs. Our platform can be adapted to serve as a small interactive website to a full web portal, in which you and your users can create as many working spaces and web sites as required.

The Peace Portal is based on a collaborative business model. Together with partners, we offer added value by sharing costs and continuously offering new functionalities and content.

Sharing costs will considerably reduce the costs of hosting, technical and functional enhancements, maintenance, support, organisation and new developments. Collaboration however does not need to stop at the technical level. Our experience shows that partnerships are especially strong and successful if there are synergies in the content and activities of both organisations. For example, sharing access to each other's user bases and content can be mutually beneficial.

Advantages of using the Peace Portal Platform

The Peace Portal platform is completely open source (based on Liferay technology). This ensures a high flexibility in customising the platform "out of the box", and offers limitless possibilities in terms of developing new features for future releases and upgrades.

Openness and flexibility also enables the technical platform to be adapted and customised according to specific needs: from a small website with limited access, to a large public portal with thousands of accesses every day.

Sharing a technical platform offers significant advantages compared to developing a new one. Why?

  • Our shared platform is ready to use. This ensures remarkable savings of time and resources during the initial, more difficult, phases of the project.
  • An impressive number of fully developed, tested, and configured advanced features are ready for immediate use.
  • Unlike a static website, the platform offers a full-scale solution, which can be expanded and improved constantly.
  • Sharing the costs for hosting, technical and functional enhancements, maintenance, support services as well as new developments, will considerably reduce the overall cost of your project.
  • All the newest improvements and functions developed by us or other partners will be made available to every partner.
  • As a partner organisation you have complete control over the branding, look and feel of your own portal/website. The design is fully customisable, and can be tailored to an organisations specific needs and requirements.
  • You can also become a member of the steering committee and participate in the decision-making process for the maintenance and further development of the Peace Portal platform.

Our goal is to promote an efficient and rational use of technology by sharing experience and knowledge.

Becoming a partner: a two phases approach

Developing an interactive website may represent a work-intensive challenge, especially when there is no technical knowledge available in-house. Unlike a static website, whose main function is to provide information, a portal requires a sophisticated interaction design, cutting edge technical solutions and constant development. By adopting our platform, you can benefit from a ready to use solution and from the support offered by the Peace Portal Team, who can guide you through the steps necessary to develop your own online portal or website.

Phase one: designing and planning

As a potential partner of the Peace Portal you should define your own portal/website strategy, based on the vision of your organisation and supported by a good understanding of your users' needs. As a partner, you develop your own business model, in order to ensure that your portal or website will fully serve your needs in the long run. In this crucial phase, the Peace Portal team can offer consultancy services to help potential partners to:

  • Define the concept: identify high-level requirements, success criteria, initial scope and team composition.
  • Develop your business model: establish the scenarios for business value, timelines, and financial constraints. Due to the broad list of technical options available, the Peace Portal team can assist you in identifying business opportunities that you may have not yet considered.
  • Define your use cases and perform a gap analysis with your current platform's capabilities, define the organisation of content, establish usability principles, and create a detailed plan and roadmap for completing your new online platform.

Phase 2: Development and delivery

This phase includes the construction, validation, deployment and running of your portal. GPPAC will work closely with development partner WorthIT (www.worthit.nl) and will be responsible for delivering a complete product that fully complies with all your organisation's  requirements.

Once the newly developed website is up and running, the Peace Portal team will also provide training to the future administrators of your website. This will include training on how to use and maintain the website, and also day-to-day management of the content and users. The Peace Portal Team will also ensure technical support and constant monitoring.
