This joint study on the prevention of violent conflict — a first in the history of our institutions — was initiated in 2016 and conducted by a team of staff members from the United Nations and the World Bank Group, in a spirit of fostering closer collaboration to deliver at the country level. It reflects a process of research and intense global consultation aimed at providing ideas on how development approaches can better interact with other tools to prevent violent conflict.
In June and July 2017, Conciliation Resources and the Alliance for Peacebuilding conducted the first ever national surveys of public attitudes in the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US) and Germany towards peacebuilding and dialogue with armed groups.
The survey offered the opportunity to compare and contrast public views at a time of shifting geopolitics and multiple security challenges. The results show a striking level of consensus, with widespread understanding of and support for peacebuilding in each country, and strong support for dialogue with groups who use armed violence, in order to further peace.

Fervently believing in the efficacy of promoting education as the key to empowering our nation (Afghanistan) to break the cycle of violence, respect universal values of human rights, foster socio-economic development and sustain civil society in Afghanistan, Dr. Sima Samar founded the non-profit and non governmental organization. Gawharshad Institute of Higher Education (GIHE) was founded in 2010 and especially focuses on providing greater opportunity for women, less economically advantaged and marginalized students through tuition subsidies and scholarships.
Don't miss the opportunity to learn successful techniques to de-escalate strong emotions in negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict. On October 4, Douglas E. Noll will teach a masterclass at The Hague, The Netherlands.
